This shift of lighthearted emotions to a serious topic shows that a major theme of this movie is going to be corruption. Petar’ s innocence is exaggerated as he describes these feelings of arousal as “a family traveling” and “circles spinning” in his stomach. This opinion of the relevance of this scene drastically changes when we later watch Milos and Marja put Petar to bed, only to have him describe the feelings of arousal he felt while watching his father’s movie. The audience generally tends to brush this scene off as comic relief, since Milos acts amused by his mistake of leaving the movie out. The audience is shown Petar watching an old porn movie- starring his father- and being both confused but interested in the content. The first child we are introduced to is Petar, Milos and Marja’s son. The film’s second narrative of corruption and lost youth is shown through the three children present in the film: Petar, Jeca, and the newborn. Perhaps the most disturbing part of A Serbian Film is the use of children as both instruments of sexual activities and as pawns in Milos self-conscious.
